- Centeral Air Conditioners & Heat Pumps - Up to $300 tax credit
- Gas Furnaces - Up to $150 tax credit
Note: These tax credits apply only to primary residences (not rental properties or new builds). Homeowners can claim their credit when filing taxes.
State Tax Incentives & Rebates for California Homeowners
In addition to federal tax credits, California offers several rebate programs to help homeowners upgrade their HVAC systems.
Available Rebate Programs:
Home Performance Program - SMUD offers up to $3,000 for a new HVAC system upgrade.
- HVAC replacement (heat pump)
- SMUD offers up to $2,000 in rebates on energy-efficient heat pump heating and cooling systems installed by a qualifying contractor.
- If you're upgrading with a heat pump water heater, HVAC system, or insulation, their Home Performance Program may be right for you.
- $45 million in statewide rebates is available now for heat pump equipment to heat and cool single family homes!
- Income-qualified California residents can receive a HEEHRA rebate of up to $8,000 through TECH Clean California.
- Single family homes include buildings with four or less units.
